Bad Luck Update: Bad Ass Vest

Officers die because they don't wear their vest. It won't be me!

We are now three weeks into the new year and I need help. Psychiatric assistance would be the most appreciated. I was at the Child Protective Services (CPS) office last week and we discussed the number of child crimes cases being reported in the past two months. Our county is being bombarded. Many officers have difficulty working with CPS but I love these ladies. We have found a way to stay within guidelines and help children. They have different rules from law enforcement but they are overworked and underpaid just like us. Going to their office also gives me a strong dose of estrogen, which I need now and then. Nothing against type “A”, macho, egotistical, little p…., well you see what I mean. Sometimes, the big E is needed.

On to other subjects…I missed my release date for Bad Luck Officer, sorry. The book is complete, re-written, and completed again. It’s now in the extreme editing stage, ugh. I’m hoping to publish it next month so please keep your fingers crossed. Along with psychological help, crossed fingers can’t hurt.

I’m now running three blogs. The cold hard truth is that I’m a blogomaniac. I’ve decided to post on opposite weeks for my main two, Bad Luck Detective and Fang Chronicles. Fang is where I write about spiders, vampires and my crazy life outside of cop stuff. It’s also where I spread the word about my vampire and werewolf writing. The first book in the Fang Chronicles: Amy’s Story is now available at Amazon and Barnes & Noble (shameless plug here). Screaming Lettuce is the latest blog post.

I’m aware most of you know me as a non-fiction writer but I love paranormal books. They take me far away from my day to day police life. I’ve been a romance book junkie for many years too. I’m sorry to disappoint if you are cringing right now. Romance makes the world go round and I heard on television recently that the brain has three basic needs; sex, food, and sleep. I think women crave romance over sex but that’s just me. Amy’s Story has romance, sex, food, and sleep so I think I covered all bases.

This leads me to my third blog “Reading and Writing One Word at a Time” I think I might have been drinking the night I started this blog. I’m not buying any more vodka. This blog needs help. My idea was to promote writers like me. If you have reviewed a great book, have a writer’s tip or just want to share something about reading or writing, I would love to have you guest post. This also keeps me from feeling guilty that I don’t have time to keep this blog going. HELP WANTED!

The picture in this post is my actual vest. We have the option of wearing under or outer body armor. Carrying items on the outside of the vest relieves pressure from my back. It also makes me look bad ass, well, not really but I can dream can’t I? I think my pink handcuffs are an extra special added touch. The Taser helps too.

Small Town is alive and well. I am one of only four officers at the moment which is exhausting. I’m spending a lot of time on patrol but that can’t be helped. If you remember, I was promoted to Sergeant but then had it taken away by our City Council. I don’t have the title but I still get the added responsibility. I’m doing great in the roll because I supervise myself. I will say my boss is great to work for. She begins every day with a smile.

If you have time, please check out my other blogs:

Reading Writing One Word at a Time
Thank you,
Suzie

You have to be a very tiny person if that vest covers all the important parts?

    • February 2, 2012 at 10:17 am

I purposely left my recent weight gain out of this post. But in all truth, the vest is getting smaller and smaller on me. It wasn’t supposed to shrink when washed:-)

  2. February 2, 2012 at 12:51 pm

    Wow, you’re a busy lady.

    • February 2, 2012 at 1:06 pm

I need a vacation from my days off.

  3. February 2, 2012 at 4:07 pm

The handcuffs are the perfect accessory, Suzie…love them! And if you’d like to have me as a guest blogger on your “Reading” blog, I’d be honored! Do you still have my email address?

    • February 2, 2012 at 9:25 pm

      Would love to!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. February 2, 2012 at 4:23 pm

The pink cuffs are a nice touch. I would get much satisfaction slapping pink cuffs on a big burly bad guy.
Sorry to hear about the increased CPS cases. Are drugs or alcohol usually involved?
I’m looking forward to reading the Bad Luck Officer, so hurry up. 😉

    • February 2, 2012 at 9:25 pm

Lots of drugs on the streets. The CPS cases that involve me are sex crimes and child abuse. With abuse I see a correlation with drugs especially meth but not so much with sex crimes. I always say a preditor looks like your next door neighbor, sad but true.

You have such a cool job! I love your vest & that you somehow have pink cuffs!! lol

But seriously, you have a lot going on~ I didn’t realize you have THREE blogs on top of being a police officer! AND writing books?!?!? Do you have a Superwoman cape stuffed in one of the pockets of that cool vest???

I CANNOT WAIT for Bad Luck Officer to come out 🙂

    • February 2, 2012 at 9:16 pm

Thank you and I’m working on BLO, so hopefully soon. It’s always wonderful to hear from you. You make me smile:-)

  6. February 2, 2012 at 6:27 pm

Suzy, honey, although I don’t carry a gun, some days I wish I had a vest to deflect the parts of my job that don’t have to do with students. You may read between the lines, cough, cough.
Glad to hear all the good news about your books. I bought Fang Chronicles and look forward to reading it– I think I still owe you a glowing review for Bad Luck Cadet.

I imagine you don’t get (or expect) much praise for what you do– so here’s a big THANK YOU for what you do to make the world a better place, my friend.

    • February 2, 2012 at 9:14 pm

Thank is just so sweet. I so appreciate the thank you!

  7. February 3, 2012 at 8:10 am

Wow, I had no idea you had so many blogs! You really are a blogomaniac! I can’t wait to check them out on my next editing break 😉 Until then, love the vest & pink handcuffs… cute!

    • February 3, 2012 at 8:36 am

You see cute while I’m trying to portray bad ass. Yeh, I know, it just doesn’t work on me:-)

Hi there! my email is still the same, if you want any psy upon you. While you may be joking, I’m serious :-). Unrelated, but two questions for you (as if you have nothing to do…): how do you like Southland TV show? My husband likes it and wonders how realistic it is? I have not seen it once yet… And next ?: what is a good place to put ID/parent contact info on a travelling child (in case one gets lost). Nothing other than a bracelet comes to my mind… but there should be other ways, right? Taught kids all this stranger-danger, yell fire, blah, blah…but have a block with where to place contact info… Thank you in advance, don’t worry if you are not able to answer though, I can imagine you barely get any sleep… Take care

    • February 3, 2012 at 12:40 pm

In today’s world, I would put the information in several places. I think one pocket in every pair of pants would do for a start. Just make a number of copies. If you have time, you can also order military like dog tags to wear on a chain. I like the bracelet idea too. I’m glad my children are grown because it’s hell thinking about these things as a cop.

I’ve never seen Southland and figured someday I would need to rent the first season to check it out and see what all the fuss is about. I’m not very into cop shows but love Son’s of Anarchy, go figure.

      • February 13, 2012 at 11:47 am

Thank you for your reply! I have not seen it before today :-). Take care, hope all is well!

  9. February 3, 2012 at 9:31 am

oh, yah… and how about “cute badass” then? you’ll be a two-in-one cop: good And bad. Tell them to pay you twice though ;-D

    • February 3, 2012 at 12:33 pm

I like the way you think!

Child pornography is being prolifically advertised in pop up ads all over the internet exposing innocent internet users to criminal charges of possession because ISP blockers work, but it writes the photographs to the hard drive and there they remain without the knowledge of the users. Under the law of probable cause, they are arrested. What is more sickening, is child predators have such easy access to horrid websites of crimes committed against children being hosted here in the United States, hub locations are california, new york and chicago. THAT IS WHY SO MANY SEX CRIMES ARE BEING COMMITTED AGAINST CHILDREN BECAUSE CHILD PREDATORS ARE BEING ALLOWED TO PROLIFERATE AND CERTAINLY DOMINATE THE INTERNET. The legally required solution was proposed in July of 2006 and hosted by Angels Against Child Predators, Inc. at no financial cost to any law enforcement agency. The FBI refuses along with the balance of the Nations Law Enforcement Agencies. It was devised for Volusia County Sheriff’s Office in Florida. Community members here assume, as do I now, apparently the child predators are paying the Sheriff to aid and abet. Otherwise, why does this criminal activity continue?

I need my readers to know that I usually do not allow spam comments. I believe the comment I am replying to is a general announcement and I usually do not allow those to come through either. This one has merrit and I went to the web site and checked them out. The comment also makes a good point that innocent internet users are at risk every day of downloading child pornography to their computers. If this happens to you, please notify law enforcement immediatly. Do not view, at least not more than it took to make you realize what happened. You computer, time and dates stamps everything. So, if you delete (thinking they are now gone) and then find months later (a file is always made) on your computer hard drive, the date and time of the second viewing is also recorded. You can visit this web site at http://www.angelsagainstchildpredators.com/ and if you ever have any questions from the law enforcement side, you know where to find me.

I love the pink cuffs. There a statement. Yes I’m a girl and I just cuffed your arse! hahahaa love it. I would love to help you out, but I too am very very bad about keeping up my blog. But if I hear of anything I will definitely let you know. Take care and take it easy.

    • February 4, 2012 at 7:58 am

Thank you Teresa and would love to have you guest post anytime!

  13. February 4, 2012 at 2:19 pm

It makes me happy to know you’re keeping yourself as safe as possible. And now I know where I can find you when you aren’t blogging here!

By the by, I didn’t even know they made pink handcuffs! Not only are they awesome because they’re pink, but I imagine a big, bad, a**hole drug dealer or wife beater must feel really extra-stupid being brought in wearing those. Which just makes them even more awesome.

    • February 4, 2012 at 2:48 pm

Pink cuffs always make for better arrests! Thanks Ruby. It was remiss of me to fail to mention that I also post at http://blogher.com It’s usually only re-posting from this site but today I wrote something just for Blogher. Here’s the link http://bit.ly/A3ozuV it’s the story of my a.k.a. name.

Ps astro is bored…. Lol hang in there

      • February 5, 2012 at 6:32 am

I miss Astro like crazy and your name is Jim (that’s the one I gave you on my blog:-). I miss both of you and we really need you two back for our drug situation here! You’re the one that pounded the vest thing into me so thank you! I will talk to my car and see if he’s willing to break down for me. The beer and time off sound great. Be safe!!!

  15. February 5, 2012 at 3:48 pm

I was becoming concerned at not hearing from you and now I read you’re finding it difficult to find time to breath. I have never worked with abused children but I have worked with adults who were abused as children. I salute you it isn’t easy work. I like things with bite but not I’m not really into vampires. I will look at your writing blog though. Take care and please don’t be a stranger 🙂

    • February 5, 2012 at 5:58 pm

Thank you Babs, I made it one paragraph into your “What did you do” blog and got called out. Heading back now.

  16. February 9, 2012 at 7:45 am

Goodness, woman… how do you have time to BREATHE? I didn’t know you were up to THREE blogs. Holy moly. I think you need that vest just to weigh you down so you don’t skyrocket into the air with all the stress. I had to laugh at needing the “Big E.” SO excited for you about all your published and to-be published books. Hope sales are going well!

    • February 9, 2012 at 7:57 am

If writing was about the money, and I didn’t have a day job, I would be writing nothing but vampire books. The market is huge. My bad luck stories and blog are more about police work , therapy actually, and keeps me sane happy:-)

  17. February 10, 2012 at 4:21 pm

Hi Suzie. I don’t have any time, but I’d love to check out your blogs anyway. I’d love to write a guest post too but it’ll have to wait. I need to clone myself. Love your trendy vest. Hey, if it keeps you alive, I say go for it.Nothing says, “en vogue” quite like a living body.

One of the guys who makes deliveries here at the office where I work, told me this morning that he and his wife are foster parents. He was discussing the two new little boys in his charge and what they came from. It just sickens me how kids are mistreated. Bravo for what you and the CPS staff are doing. It’s not an easy job and rarely do you receive the kudos you deserve. At the end of the day though, you know you’ve done a good thing and made the world a better place and that has to feel wonderful. Blessings.

    • February 11, 2012 at 8:37 am

Thank you, and I agree with the cloning part. Let me know if you get a guest post written because I love to have you!

  18. February 11, 2012 at 5:49 pm

You should write a blog post on time management – you’re too amazing 🙂 I’ve always wondered how police officers manage to carry all their equipment – the vest idea is a good one. Your Bad Luck series is great! Looking forward to the new release! Being a vegetarian I’ll have to check out your post on the Screaming Lettuce 🙂
